Friday July 10th and Saturday July 11th, Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands

The Nijmegen Centre for Academic Writing would like to invite tutors working at writing centres all over the world for an EWCA peer tutor event this summer. Last year, our tutors were very inspired by the exchange with international colleagues at the EWCA Peer Tutor Day in Frankfurt/Oder. Unfortunately, no Peer Tutor Day was planned for this summer, which would mean that many of our tutors would not have the opportunity to meet with other (foreign) colleagues to exchange ideas. That is why we decided to host the 2015 Peer Tutor Day in Nijmegen!

The Peer Tutor Day will take place on Friday July 10th and Saturday July 11th 2015 at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands. The purpose of this day is to exchange ideas, practices and experiences regarding different aspects of the peer tutor work at a writing centre. We offer several workshops, including a workshop on dealing with international students and a workshop on non-directive tutoring. We also scheduled activities like role-play, speed-dating (around the theme of good and bad practices) and a creative personal reflection. Besides workshops and other activities, there will also be time to get to know each other and explore the city of Nijmegen, the oldest city of the Netherlands, and a mere 1.5 hour train journey from Amsterdam.

On www.ru.nl/asn/peertutorday you will find the preliminary programme, as well as information on affordable accommodation and travel advice. Registration is now open! The € 40 conference fee includes: drinks, two lunches, dinner on Friday, an information folder, as well as valuable new tools for your practice as a writing tutor. Should you have any questions, please contact Nijmegen peer tutor Ellen Nieboer (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

We hope to welcome you to Nijmegen this summer for this inspirational event!

Who are we? The Nijmegen Centre for Academic Writing is an organization that aims to guide Radboud University students through their writing process. We cater for bachelors as well as masters students from all faculties. Our team consists of a coordinator, an assistant-coordinator and twelve peer tutors, who themselves are students of Radboud University. The one-on-one tutoring sessions are free of charge for students. It doesn’t matter what kind of academic texts students are working on, or in what stage of the writing process they are – the purpose of our tutoring sessions is to help students become a better writer. We focus on topics like the main research question, structure, paragraphing, and academic style. We do not teach grammar. We use a non-directive approach, which means that we do not tell students what is right or wrong, but try to help them to think for themselves. We are very proud that more than 2000 tutoring sessions take place at our writing centre every year.
